I've bought licenses for Event Archiver, now how do I register and implement it?
Before registering the software, determine how many Event Archiver
"collection stations" you want to set up. A collection station is simply a
spare (but reliable) NT/2000/XP workstation or server where Event Archiver
is installed. If you have a well-connected domain (10 MBit or greater LAN),
we recommend only archiving a maximum of 75 to 100 servers from a single
collection station. If you have standalone servers in a demilitarized zone
or other isolated network, you can install Event Archiver to each standalone
machine, configuring it to only collect from itself. If you have WAN
network links, it's best to set up an Event Archiver collection server at
each of the remote ends, as to minimize traffic travelling over the WAN
during collection time.
After all the different collection stations are
configured appropriately, you can license each collection station
independently by clicking the Help --> Register Event Archiver menu item and submitting a registration.
In general, it's best to configure
the stations first (since the products are fully functional during the first
30 days), and then register after the configuration.
Here's a hypothetical example of how your registration might look after
configuring your collection stations:
Collection Station 1: 25 servers in domain / LAN
Collection Station 2: 1 server in a DMZ / Firewalled LAN
Collection Station 3: 1 server in a DMZ / Firewalled LAN
Collection Station 4: 5 servers in a domain / WAN remote end
In this scenario, we have 32 servers whose logs are being collected, spread
out over 4 collection stations. This means that you would complete 4
registrations for Event Archiver - one for each
collection station - specifying the number of servers you will be collecting
from at that station (e.g. 25, 1, 1, and 5).
The Dorian Software Creations
Fulfillment Team will respond within 24 hours with an unlocking code for
each collection station.
